My 10 Great SEO Tips

Every SEO company and SEO consultant has their great SEO tips.

The problem for most businesses is that Search Engine Optimization (SEO), like the Internet and search standards, is continuously evolving.

Not only is there a learning curve with SEO, but you have to keep up to continue improving or even maintain results. As one of the fastest growing Baltimore SEO agencies, we are constantly making adjustments for our clients.

Like most business owners, it took me a while to figure this out, but once I started paying attention to changing trends in SEO, I was able to get ahead of the curve. Here are my 10 great SEO tips I think other businesses could benefit from moving forward.

SEO Tip 1. Focus on mobile

It’s not enough to use responsive design to cater to mobile users. You also have to start thinking about optimizing your site for mobile search. Google recently issued new AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) standards for pages designed for mobile use. By optimizing for AMP, businesses could boost search rankings, and content will load quicker for users.

SEO Tip 2. Optimize keywords

I know what you’re thinking – this isn’t news. How you can best optimize keywords to take advantage of current search trends is. Semantic keywords are where it’s at, and you need to optimize content using collections of topical keywords rather than relying on single, trending keywords.

SEO Tip 3. Optimize internal links

There are a couple of useful tricks to optimize using internal links to improve search visibility. For one thing, you should keep the number of outbound links from any given page to a minimum if possible. Also, link to other pages featuring related content (deep links) since this can help those pages index faster and improve their rankings.

SEO Tip 4. Understand rich data

Rich data in search has to do with the growing use of data boxes at the top of search results also referred to as the knowledge graph. There are several features related to rich data such as tabbed results, sliders, charts, sidebars, lists, and more. If you can provide simple, concise versions of context, you can angle for inclusion in these rich data results for better placement for specific searches, and get a link at the top of the list.

SEO Tip 5. Optimize for voice search

Many mobile users conduct hands-free voice searches, and if you want to take advantage of this trend and optimize for it, you need to focus on “natural” language, like how people speak. This also relates to rich data, as voice responses will reference the website listed for featured data with “According to [your website]…”. It’s like free advertising.

SEO Tip 6. Don’t get cozy with redirects

Google recently announced that 301 redirects would no longer harm page rank, but in fact, important data, like topical relevance, could get lost in the shuffle. You’ve probably stayed away from 301 redirects until now, so just keep doing what you’re doing.

SEO Tip 7. Consider the user experience

It is not clear about whether user engagement (bounce rates, time users spend on your site, and so on) is a factor in search rankings. It may or may not be, but it’s a pretty clear indication of what’s working and what isn’t on your landing pages and your site in general. You should always try to improve user experience and engagement for the benefit of your brand and site visitors and maybe the cherry on top will be better rankings.

SEO Tip 8. YMYL

If you pay attention to Google’s search quality guidelines, you probably know that their latest release includes standard for YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) pages, where users are asked to provide confidential, personal data like financial or medical information. If you don’t meet standards for quality and security, your rankings could suffer as a result.

SEO Tip 9. Keep tracking!

You know tracking metrics and analyzing data is an important part of honing and adjusting your SEO strategy, but with more competition than ever, tracking can help you see how your efforts affect rankings. Don’t forget to pay attention to competitors, as well.

SEO Tip 10. Haunt forums

Whether you pay for help with SEO or not, every business owner can benefit from keeping up with industry news and what experts are discussing on SEO forums. Frequenting these forums gives you access to relevant and timely information, as well as the opportunity to ask questions and get answers from SEO authorities.
